The Capital Preparatory Magnet School consists of grades 6 through 12 and is a year-round college preparatory school. Downes was selected as the Construction Manager for this accelerated, multi-phased project. Renovations to the existing school facility included complete new HVAC, electrical, and life safety systems, extensive structural repairs, conversion of the old auditorium into the new media center; and renovation of the original classrooms into new science rooms, administrative offices, and classrooms.
Renovations also involved new windows and a complete restoration/re-pointing of the entire masonry façade. The new construction involved a gymnasium, locker rooms, connecting lobby and exterior improvements including a new athletic practice field. Capital Preparatory Magnet School was designed for the equivalency of LEED Silver Certification.
