Downes Construction was selected as the construction manager for the adaptive reuse of commercial office building into the state-of-the-art Discovery Academy. The school’s magnet theme focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects. The exterior design provides an interactive
means for students to explore nature. The site’s natural rolling topography and extensive vegetation creates nature trails, discovery areas, planting beds, fields, and playscapes.
The theme of interactive exploration carries into the building, with dramatic features and exhibits in the main lobby. The school accommodates 435 Pre-K to 5th grade students, in 24 core classrooms. Additional classrooms are provided for science, literacy, art and music, along with a computer lab inside of the new library/media center.
