Downes was selected by the Town of East Haddam to manage the conversion of the former Nathan Hale middle school to the Town’s municipal offices. The Town was looking to maintain the historical integrity of this 22,000sf building while still creating state-of-the-art work areas which would allow them the capacity to grow and serve the residents of East Haddam.
The phased renovation included demolition of the 18,000sf Ray building, hazmat abatement, exterior historic restoration, preservation of historic mural, office fit-out, and site improvements with prefabricated vehicle storage building.
The project was financed with a USDA loan and municipal tax dollars and Downes adhered to all federal and local mandated requirements, submissions and restrictions.
