Downes was awarded he Construction Manger contract for the East Hampton High School construction project, an occupied renovate-as-new assignment.
The project included 32,000 sf of new construction and 93,000 sf of renovated space. A new science classroom and lab wing, a new gym, and increased cafeteria seating comprise the additions. The construction was conducted with multiple phases as the building remained occupied during construction.
Part of this multi-phased, renovate-as-new project involved a full roof replacement and the installation of a fire protection water storage system that included underground tanks and a fire-pump house. This was an essential step in providing for the safety of students and staff by ensuring well-water was reserved in case of an emergency.
