Due to the aging demographics, the Town of East Hartford recognized the opportunity to enhance their Senior Center. The 1970’s site, a former Catholic Church, was built with a modern design and readily adaptable for the Town’s senior needs.
This new 20,000 sf space includes a Tech Hub, exercise rooms, meeting spaces, café, a demonstration kitchen fronting a full commercial kitchen, a dining room, media center, outdoor patio, and a resale boutique.
Downes Construction was hired to coordinate a diverse range of internal Town staff, the design team, specialty vendors and consultants, and the construction manager. We created a master project budget, supported the Mayor’s effort to secure full funding, procured the CM, the independent testing agent, fitness equipment, and extensive audio-video tech.
Downes oversaw work in the field on a fast-track schedule, which was made more challenging by the impact
