Gaffney Elementary School

Downes was selected by the Consolidated School District of New Britain to be the Construction Manager on the additions and renovations to Gaffney Elementary School.

Selective demolition was performed on the entire building, including removal of the majority of interior and exterior walls, and exterior walls and temp classrooms. The building was stripped down to the super structure, foundation, steel, and roof deck.

The project consisted of the following:

• Exterior wall system (masonry, precast, windows, and doors)
• Interior walls, ceilings, and floors
• New mechanical, plumbing, electrical, technology, and security systems
• Renovation of the cafeteria, auditorium, and media center
• Site renovation and expansion to create a safe drop-off area for parents and buses
