James Blackstone Memorial Library

Downes Construction assisted in the renovation and addition project of the neoclassic revival library building. The project was completed while the building was occupied, requiring Downes to work closely with staff members, developing creative ways to minimize disruption to daily programs. Major pieces of this project included:

Relocation of the children’s area with combined collection, play/study, and technology areas

• Expanded adaptable meeting rooms with study carrels
• A new cafe
• Significant upgrades to MEP systems, technology, and security
• Reconstruction of the young adult area
• A new 2,000 sf rear entry that included a rooftop terrace
