Downes Construction Company was hired along with Joint Venture partner Newfield Construction as Construction Manager at Risk for the renovation of the 1,775 student, 265,000 sf high school which moves the City of New London one step closer to becoming the State’s first and only all-magnet district. The Joint Venture team assisted the City of New London and Board of Education to develop this $108M project into a first-rate teaching and learning environment.
Phase 1, completed in 2018, included a newly renovated outdoor track and spectator amenities.
Phase 2, performed in the Summer of 2019, included Hazardous Material Abatement enabling work and Boiler Room Selective Demolition.
Phase 3, currently under construction, includes the phased renovation of the existing building.
The newly updated Multi Magnet Campus will house visual and performing arts students in grades 6-12 as well as High School STEM and International magnet programs. The addition will include a new front entrance to the school, arts program with dance, choral, and band spaces, new administrative offices and locker rooms. The remainder of the existing building will be fully renovated and will include a new cafeteria converted from the former pool area, kitchen/servery and culinary arts education program, a renovated auditorium, and a renovated gymnasium. Extensive site improvements will also be performed with separated bus and parent drop off areas.
