The 50-year old North Haven Police Department required costly repairs for a force that had doubled in size since the building was constructed. In addition, the facilities were inadequate to meet the needs of today’s law enforcement community. The Town’s solution is a combination renovation and new construction to satisfy both public safety and code requirements.
The new facility includes a 2-console dispatch center with state-of-the-art communications equipment, training room for 70 and separate conference rooms, investigation areas and interview rooms, traffic and patrol, 2-bay sally port and prisoner processing, 5 detention cells, evidence and property, armory, locker and physical training rooms, storage and administrative areas.
The site is very tight and houses multiple community buildings. Downes developed a comprehensive site logistics plan that kept pedestrians safe during construction. While construction was occurring, the police department was temporarily relocated to a Town building directly across the street from the existing station.
