Prosser Public Library

The Town of Bloomfield selected Downes as the Construction Manager for the renovation and expansion of Prosser Public Library, one of the community’s two public libraries. This transformative project will replace the existing 20,200 square foot building with a new, state-of-the-art 28,000 square foot facility, constructed on the same site and extending into the current parking area.

To meet parking needs, the design includes both an expanded adjacent lot and garage parking beneath a section of the new building. This approach maximizes available space while mitigating flood risks from Wash Brook, which runs through the site and will be spanned by a newly constructed pedestrian bridge.

Inside, the new library will feature exposed wood timbers in the atrium ceiling, artfully integrated with steel structural elements to create a warm, modern aesthetic. A key enhancement is the addition of a Community Room—a flexible space for public meetings and events that reflects the library’s growing role as a civic gathering place and offers an alternative to Town Hall venues.

Sustainability is a central priority, with the project targeting LEED Silver certification to ensure energy efficiency, environmental stewardship, and long-term resilience.
