Downes was selected as the Construction Manager for the new 40,000 sq ft Wallingford Police Department headquarters. The project involved the full interior demolition of outdated infrastructure—including partitions, a perimeter greenhouse wall, raised flooring systems, and legacy utilities—to make way for a modern, purpose-built facility.
The new headquarters features a welcoming public lobby, administrative offices, interview rooms, detective and traffic divisions, community policing spaces, evidence storage, dispatch and communications areas, training facilities, SWAT operations, booking and jail cells, and upgraded restroom and support spaces. The scope also included comprehensive upgrades to the building’s structural systems, lighting, HVAC, and fire protection.
In addition to the main building, the project includes construction of two new outbuildings: one housing an indoor firing range, and another serving traffic control and maintenance operations. A new communications tower will also be installed to support modern emergency services infrastructure.
