Investing in Hope

Wheeler Health: A Beacon on Hope Street

Once an underutilized site in the heart of downtown, Wheeler Health’s new Integrated Health Center now stands as a symbol of progress, resilience, and community investment. Located on Hope Street, the name could not be more fitting—this 46,000-square-foot, $24 million facility delivers comprehensive, patient-centered healthcare to thousands in the region. The center consolidates primary care, behavioral health, and specialty services under one roof, ensuring that families receive integrated, high-quality care in a welcoming, state-of-the-art environment.

“Wheeler brings hope, comfort and healing to so many people, and we hope that this building at One Hope Street will be a place where everybody will feel welcome.”

Mary Rodier, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Wheeler Health

Wheeler Health’s new headquarters reflects a vision for holistic care—one where medical, behavioral, and wellness services work together to support patients at every stage of life.

“We don’t do our work every day for recognition.
We do it for everyone we serve because it is the right thing.”

– Sabrina Trocchi, Wheeler Health President

As the first new development in Bristol’s Center Square in five years, the project presented several complex challenges—from navigating city approvals to site logistics. The location, a former mall property, had been vacant for over a decade and posed underground utility and structural stability concerns. Additionally, the facility’s below-grade level, positioned beneath the water table, required a custom stormwater pumping system to prevent flooding and ensure long-term site sustainability.

In spite of all the challenges, the team remained on schedule throughout the project, delivering a high-performance facility (on time!) that meets the evolving needs of the community.

Beyond its impact on healthcare, Wheeler Health’s new headquarters is a driving force in Bristol’s economic renewal. By bringing 200 employees into the city center, the project strengthens local businesses and contributes to a more vibrant downtown.

The facility blends modern healthcare with community investment, offering a space where patients feel valued, employees feel inspired, and the city of Bristol thrives.

“This is the first development to hit the ground in five years in Center Square, and we are building the heart of our downtown.”

– Mayor Jeff Caggiano.

At its grand opening, President and CEO Kurt Barwis spoke of the impact being a good neighbor and partner to Bristol Health stating the two organizations can work “To help all individuals that we serve achieve the highest health status, so that is everybody, not just some people, it’s everybody in our community.” With a mission-driven focus and a forward-thinking design, Wheeler Health’s new Integrated Health Center stands as a beacon of progress on Hope Street—a testament to collaboration, resilience, and a healthier future for all.
